Bernhard Staender was appointed as Chairman of the Irish Chapter of the Global Institute of Logistics Irish Chapter in 2012.
Bernhard is Managing Director Germanischer Lloyd Certification GmbH (now DNV GL) and Global Business Manager Systems Certification. Born in 1953 he received an Unlimited Master’s Licence (AG) in 1977. He previously worked in controlling, corporate planning, negotiations with international partners and Operations Manager North Atlantic at Hapag-Lloyd AG.
Since 1995 he has worked for Germanischer LLoyd and became Managing Director of Germanischer Lloyd Certification GmbH in 2004. Since 2006 he has been Global Business Manager Systems Certification and is Lead Auditor for ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISM, ISPS. Mr Staender has been involved in the development of the benchmark standards the Cool Chain Quality Indicator.

As of 12 September 2013, DNV and GL have merged to form DNV GL. We now form the world’s largest ship and offshore classification society, the leading technical advisor to the global oil and gas industry, and a leading expert for the energy value chain including renewables and energy efficiency. We’ve also taken a position as one of the top three certification bodies in the world.
