WOO YE-JONG

PRESIDENT BUSAN PORT AUTHORITY

WOO YE-JONG is President and Chief Executive Officer of the Busan Port Authority (CEO).
Mr. Woo was selected for his extensive experience in the maritime and shipping industries during his lengthy career in government.

He has worked in a range of Korean government maritime roles including Director General for Shipping Policy, Assistant Minister for Marine Policy and Director-General for Northeast Asia Logistics Hub Promotion. Prior to his current appointment, Mr. Woo served as Deputy Minister for Planning and Coordination at the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries. He is also a visiting professor at the Graduate School of Logistics, Incheon National University.
President Woo, who comes from Cheonan in South Korea’s Chungcheong province, graduated from Dankook University and holds a master’s degree from Cardiff University.

“My focus as CEO will be on strengthening the port’s competitiveness by improving efficiency and keeping control of costs. It is vital that we maintain a clear strategy to ensure we retain our current position as a global container hub port”.

He has had a long career in public service that began in the Korea Maritime and Port Administration in 1985. Thereafter, he held various positions in the MOF, including spearheading efforts to develop Busan as Northeast Asia’s logistics hub.
Woo Ye-jong was chosen to lead the Port of Busan in its effort to become an even larger transshipment hub, succeeding Lim Ki-tack who has been elected as the International Maritime Organization’s next secretary-general.
